Thesis (B/M): Parameterized scale-up model for prospective life cycle assessment

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros. 

The Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology in Sulzbach-Rosenberg conducts applied research, develops innovative technologies for public and industrial clients and translates these into marketable products and processes. In addition, material flow and sustainability studies are carried out for sustainable waste and resource management.

 

What you will do

  • Carrying out a literature review on the parameterized model as part of the prospective life cycle assessment
  • Collaboration with technical experts to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Iterative development of a parameterized scale-up model for the prospective LCA based on lab-scale, pilot-scale and demonstration-scale experiments
  • Analysis of the results using sensitivity and uncertainty analysis
  • Summarizing and evaluating the results and findings to support the further development of our technologies

 

What you bring to the table

must have:

  • Degree in environmental engineering, process engineering, chemical/chemical engineering, energy engineering or comparable suitable subject areas
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of life cycle assessment and industrial technologies
  • Proven experience with data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English

 

nice to have:

  • Previous experience or knowledge in scale-up modeling and pyrolysis-based technologies would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g. Python, R)
  • Knowledge of German is an advantage, but not necessary

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
