Fraunhofer FHR in Wachtberg near Bonn is one of many institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and one of the leading and largest European research institutes in the field of high frequency physics and radar technology with one of the world's most powerful space observation radars.

The "Antennas and Front-End Technology" group has extensive competences in the development of single and array antennas, RF components and metamaterials. In recent years, the group has built up expertise in material and antenna characterization as well as in the manipulation of wave propagation and scattering properties of surfaces. For these tasks, state-of-the-art software tools, fabrication technologies and modern measurement facilities are available.

In this position, you will research innovative antenna elements and arrays as well as measures for manipulation of electromagnetic wave propagation (e.g., by using metamaterial-based approaches) in a wide frequency range from megahertz to lower terahertz frequencies. You will be part of our team of scientific and technical colleagues, participate in our regular exchange of ideas and work in contract research and in public-funded projects.

What you will do

  • Perform research in the field of antenna elements and arrays as well as measures for the manipulation of electromagnetic wave propagation
  • Literature and patent research
  • Application of electromagnetic simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS or CST Studio Suite
  • Design and supervision of the construction and characterization of hardware demonstrators
  • Scientific evaluation of simulated and measured data
  • Documentation of research and investigation results in the form of presentations, reports, publications and presentations at scientific conferences

What you bring to the table
