There is a need for urban planning approaches that enable an integrated, quantitative and scientific representation of the urban climate. Our group integrates computational models and machine learning to study urban microclimate and support urban planning. This work aims to conduct a parametric study of wind and temperature in urban areas, with a focus on developing advanced AI models to replace CFD simulations.

What you will do

  • Conducting OpenFOAM CFD simulations for various built-up urban areas.
  • Conducting parametric study as well as validation and performance evaluation of CFD models.
  • Developing AI models trained using the simulation results to predict atmospheric variables.

What you bring to the table

  • Enrollment at a University studying master’s in Computational engineering, Meteorology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics, particularly experience in OpenFOAM simulations.
  • Experience in scientific programming language (Python/R), knowledge of machine learning desired.
  • Good knowledge of English

What you can expect

  • Integration in the newly established group Urban Physics Modeling (UPM)
  • Flexible working hours and home office
  • Employment for at least 6-12 months as a student assistant
